Beating dhols, Union Minister and Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party President, Vijay Sampla and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, Shiromani Akali Dal President, Sukhbir Singh Badal, today accused Congress government of failing to boost development in the state.
Addressing the BJP's 'Bajao Dhol, Kholo Pol' rally here today at Guru Gobind Singh Enclave, Vijay Sampla said the Congress government, which came into power making false promises, stands exposed within one year.
Sampla said the government under Capt. Amarinder Singh is probably the first government in the country which has started winding up welfare schemes instead of initiating new ones. He also said the incumbent government had earned people's hatred within the very first year of its term.
Lambasting the Congress government, Sampla further said while the Centre's Modi government presents its report card every year, the state government was hiding its report card like a dim-witted student.
Meanwhile, terming Congress as the number one enemy of the people of Punjab, former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, Sukbhir Singh Badal said the Congress had maligned the image of Punjab by labelling its youth as drug addicts.
Questioning Capt Amarinder Singh, he asked if 70 per cent of the youth in the state were addicted to drugs earlier, then how many youth have been admitted to drug rehabilitation centres during his one-year tenure and action against how many drug smugglers has been initiated ?
The people of Punjab are witness to the fact that 'Chitta' has become common during Congress regime while the sand and gravel was concentrated in the hands of goons," he said.
Sukhbir Badal termed the Akali-BJP coalition as the first of its kind in the country which was selflessly working together. He said the state finance minister was doing nothing but crying hoarse over empty coffers. Speaking on the occasion, former minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia said the Congressmen were themselves admitting to government's incompetence. The statements made by the finance minster and the Local Bodies' Minister proved that Capt Amarinder Singh has given up.
Meanwhile, BJP national vice-president, Avinash Rai Khanna said Capt Amarinder Singh's government wasted its first year. The chief minister forgot the oath he took while holding a Gutka Sahib in hands within just a year.
