The Kapurthala police today claimed to have solved a blind murder case within 24 hours by arresting a woman along her paramour and a friend for allegedly murdering her husband on Sunday.
The mutilated body of the victim, Narinder Singh, a resident of Khawaspur village in Tarn Taran district, was found near Sultanpur Lodhi yesterday.
The accused have been identified as Rajwant Kaur, wife of the victim, and Jaspal Singh of Dullowal village in Sultanpur Lodhi and his friend Sucha Singh for helping them in orchestrating the murder.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kapurthala Sandeep Kumar Sharma said the reason behind the murder was the alleged illicit relationship between Rajwant and Jaspal, alias Doctor, for the past two years.
The police said the victim was a truck driver in Nagaland for the past two years and had came back home last month.
During interrogation, the victim’s wife confessed to having an affair with Jaspal and that she took her lover’s and his friend’s help to get rid of Narinder.
The SSP said Jaspal, with the help of his friend Sucha, had hatched a plan to kill Narinder by giving him poison mixed in liquor. As per the plan, Jaspal called him to his place and killed him with a sharp-edged weapon when Narinder fell unconscious after drinking liquor.
The police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 302 and 201 of the IPC.
