With a view to promote the habit of book reading among youngsters, the Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall Committee has started construction of a ‘kitab ghar’ (library) on its premises.

Besides books relating to the Ghadar Movement, Kirti Movement, Indian National Army, books of literature in other languages will also be made available in the ‘kitab ghar’.

“Since the very first manifesto of the Ghadar party declared in 1913 that “no business would be made out of the Ghadar literature, we have decided to provide the space for the same in the library free of cost. Literary books will be provided on a ‘no-profit-no-loss basis”, said Amolak Singh, a representative of the cultural wing of the Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall Committee.

He said the kitab ghar had been sponsored by Kulvir Singh Sanghera; a UK-based member of the committee and the son of renowned Gadhari, Bhagat Singh Bilga.

“Though there are over 45,000 books in the Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall reference library, hardly anyone take interest to access them, and then we thought intermediation, which would attract them to library, so we have passed a resolution in the committee meeting to open a kitab ghar, which would be inaugurated on April 21, the foundation day of the Ghadar party,” he said.

“We have also passed a resolution to get a mobile library. The purpose of the mobile library would be to reach out to rural areas, schools and colleges and provide them literary and history books related to the Ghadar movement. Besides syllabus books, students should also show interest in other books,” Amolak said.
