Nawanshahr, February 12
In an effort to combat drug addiction and promote a drug-free society, the Red Cross Drug De-Addiction and Rehabilitation Centre, Nawanshahr, organised an awareness camp at Government Primary School in Malla Bedian on Monday. The initiative falls under the ambit of the ‘Nasha Mukat Bharat Abhiyaan’ campaign, aimed at eradicating substance abuse from communities.
The event, presided over by Kulwinder Kaur, the sarpanch of the village, witnessed an engaged audience comprising various stakeholders, including community leaders and local citizens.
Kamaljeet Kaur, a counsellor, emphasised the psychological toll of drug addiction, labelling it as a mental ailment that demands collective awareness and empathy. She shed light on the severe health repercussions associated with drug abuse, including diseases such as HCV, HIV, liver ailments, and compromised eyesight. Kaur advocated for holistic well-being, stressing the importance of a nutritious diet and drawing inspiration from the life stories of heroes and warriors.
Parvesh Kumar, a peer educator, apprised the attendees with the services offered by the Red Cross De-Addiction Centre. Kumar highlighted the centre’s commitment to providing free treatment and fostering a supportive familial environment for individuals battling addiction.
