The local police and the counter-intelligence wing today busted an inter-state gang of drug smugglers with the arrest of three of its members. They were identified as Ramanjit Singh and Gorakh Nath of Karyam village in Nawanshahr district and Narinder Singh of Ramban (Jammu and Kashmir).
Addressing a press conference here, Kapurthala SSP Sandeep Sharma, Phagwara SP Parminder Singh Bhandhal and DSP Harish Dyama said the police had recovered 450 kg of poppy husk and Rs 1.53 lakh from a truck and an Indigo car.
The SSP said Narinder brought the contraband from J&K that was to be delivered to Ramanjit and Gorakh. Ramanjit was working as a contractual teacher in a Nawanshahr school.
Narinder was shifting poppy husk from the truck to the car when the trio was caught.
