Phagwara, December 22

Vijay Sampla, Union Minister of State, met Nitin Gadkari, Union Transport Minister yesterday to finalise the strategy of the construction work of elevated flyover in the town, which is lying pending for the last one year.

Gadkari agreed to start the construction work of the project soon.

Talking to newsmen here on Friday, Sampla said e-bidding for the construction work would be held on December 28.

Notably, the construction of the flyover was hanging fire due to the ongoing political tug-of-war between Sampla and Phagwara MLA Som Prakash,

The latter was in favour of an overbridge, but Sampla and his supporters wanted an elevated flyover.

Ultimately the Union Government sanctioned the construction of a flyover.

When asked about upcoming elections of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, Punjab BJP president Sampla said though the ruling party had won the local bodies elections by misusing civil and police machinery, the SAD-BJP alliance would contest MC elections of Ludhiana.

Sampla said he had summoned a two-day state-level meeting of the office bearers of the party in Ludhiana from Saturday.
