Among a host of other radical changes and reforms which the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) plans to introduce in the board exams this year, it has also introduced a host of changes in the way the answer-sheets of the students shall be marked this year to prevent cheating.

The PSEB has introduced the Evaluation Marking App, which shall determine the way the students results’ shall be marked for the board exams for classes XI and XII in 2018.

While previously, the list of all markings made on the answer-sheets marked by teachers in schools were being sent via post to the board in Chandiagrh, from this year, all marks of students, the number of answer-sheets checked, among all valid information, regarding the checked papers shall be uploaded on the app, from where it shall directly reach the board. Every teachers – on duty – for checking sheets – shall be given 75 sheets to check. The staff on duty shall also access the app via a dedicated login which each person on duty shall be provided with.

A school teacher based in the district said, “The marking evaluation app is a welcome change. It will now be made easier to grade students. The teachers will be free of the tedious process of sending detailed posts regarding marks. All marks shall just have to be uploaded on the app, which is a foolproof process, keeping the marking system transparent and will also help in ruling out any foul play.” The Education Department has fixed a training schedule to lend lessons to teachers in the way they are supposed to mark students through the evaluating app. Teachers shall be given this training via EDUSAT on February 26 across government high and senior secondary schools in the district.

In the morning, a session from 11 am to 1 pm shall be held via EDUSAT to train heads/coordinators of evaluation centres, lecturers, computer teachers, sub-examiners and checking assistants, training/query/new improvement in software. Meanwhile, a second session from 1 pm to 1.30 pm shall train all district managers regarding the same.

The heads of affiliated schools have been directed to attend the session in their nearest government schools. A report on the session is also to be prepared and sent to the Education Department tomorrow.
