Experts speak on advances in bio-energy research

JALANDHAR: In the second International conference on ‘Recent Advances in Bio-energy Research’ at the Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bio-Energy (SSS-NIBE), an autonomous institution of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, Kapurthala, the importance of science in bio-energy research for the welfare of the society and the renewable energy targets and strategies were discussed.

In the second International conference on ‘Recent Advances in Bio-energy Research’ at the Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bio-Energy (SSS-NIBE), an autonomous institution of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, Kapurthala, the importance of science in bio-energy research for the welfare of the society and the renewable energy targets and strategies were discussed.

The eminent scientists/academicians from Brazil, Maxico, South Africa, Canada and USA and leading institutes of India— GNDU, Amritsar, IIT, Kharagpur, Devi Ahilya University, Indore, NIT, Jalandhar, NIT, Surat, IIRE, Coimbtore, Vayugrid Bangalore, Dr YS Parmar University, Solan, NIIST, Trivandrum, IIP, Dehradun— spoke on the occasion.

Prof Igor Polikarpov, Brazil, Prof Cecilia lalewce Brazil, Dr Lalini Reddy, South Africa, Prof Ravidra Chibbar, Canada, Dr Hector Ruize, Maxico, Prof Vijay Singh from USA were the leading speakers. They emphasised on the energy needs and requirement of bio-energy in their countries and worldwide.

Prof Igor focused on second generation bio-ethanol technologies in Brazil and also emphasised on logarithmic increases in population and energy demand. Prof Cecilia emphasised on the population dynamics in ecological inches of industrial production of fuel ethanol. Dr Ruize briefed about pre-treatment of biomass, modelling and separation for bio refinery. Dr Reddy briefed the bio-fuel production form sea weeds and elaborated various methods of ethanol production form sea weeds and Prof Vijay Singh, University of Illinois, USA made his presentation through video conferencing and emphasised on the development of oil yielding sugar cane species via genetic modification and prospects of sugarcane for oil production.
