Jalandhar: The Punjabi Department of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, organised a farewell party for outgoing students of MA Punjabi. Principal Dr Gurpinder Singh Samra gave best wishes to the students. Head of the department Dr Kulwant Singh Sandhu and Prof Gopal Sing Buttar welcomed other guests and students. Students presented various items such as giddha, bhangra, poem, ghazal, skit and Punjabi folk song. Jaswinder Singh and Veena were adjudged Mr and Miss ‘Farewell’, respectively, and Gurpreet Kaur, Prabhjot Kaur, Suveen and Sukhwinder Singh were awarded for their performances. The winners were given various prizes. Dr Sukhdev Singh Nagra, Dr Harjinder Singh and Prof Gurjeet Kaur acted as judges for the events. All staff members of the department were among those others present.

Send-off function

‘Lamha-e-Ravangi’, a grand send-off function, was organised in the Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, to bid adieu to the outgoing batch of students. The function witnessed choreography, songs and colourful cultural items presented to an enthusiastic audience of final year students. The students also participated in fun games. The outgoing batch vied with each other for the titles of Mr Apeejay, Ms Apeejay, Mr Handsome, Ms Elegant and Mr Cynosure which were evidentially won by the following students. Principal Dr Sucharita said it was the responsibility of youth to ensure that the country and the world become a better place to live in and this responsibility rests on the shoulders of the outgoing batch. She urged students to pursue their dreams with commitment, hard work and a strong sense of responsibility. Students credited the principal and teachers for shaping their personalities. Titles given to students were: Mr Apeejay - Kunwar Raj Singh, Mr Handsome - Sarthak Sahi, Ms Elegant - Bimalpreet Kaur, Ms Cynosure - Bhavika, Ms Apeejay - Diksha Puri.

Educational visit

The Innocent Hearts Group of Institutions organised an educational visit for its agriculture department students at the PAU&T, Ludhiana, as well as Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana. During the visit, Pranav Sharma, Simran Kaur and Dr Pardeep Kumar Srivastava accompanied and guided students about the importance and need of the educational visit. Firstly, they visited the Kisan Ghar on the PAU campus, after that the students visited the library of PAU. Later, students visited ICAR - Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET). Principal-scientist of processing and food engineering Dr Sandeep Mann shown the seed production unit of sunflowers as well other crop trails and museum of the home science department. All students enjoyed the visit.

International Earth Day

PAHAL, an NGO, organised an awareness and educational programme to mark the recently observed International Earth Day at a special training centre under the NCLP in Bhagat Singh Colony. Prof Lakhbir Singh, president, PAHAL, said lack of education and awareness have damaged the environment, which also caused serious threats to life on the earth. The solution is only education. He added that environmental and climate literacy was the engine not only for creating green voters and advancing environmental and climate laws and policies but also for accelerating green technologies and jobs. The forest cover decreased to such a low level that it was less than 4 per cent in Punjab in compared to the need of 33 per cent. Hypertension, diabetes, respiratory problems and cancer were the major problems faced by people. Harvinder Kaur, Principal, Nirmaan School; Liakatbir Singh; Pankaj Mehta; staff members of the STC and 50 students were among those who attended the event. Saplings of bamboo, sukhchain, chakkresia were also planted. — TNS
