Jalandhar, February 19
Although farmers have been expecting a bumper wheat crop this season, agriculture experts believe that cloudy weather these days could potentially cause ‘karnal bunt’ to the crop. Karnal bunt is a fungal disease that attacks wheat during its flowering stage in cloudy weather. “Given these conditions, the threat is quite prevalent,” said Naresh Gulati from the Agriculture Department, Jalandhar.
“Farmers should spray Propicona Zole only if they see the symptoms,” he added. He said the affected grain cannot be used as seed, but was fine for consumption. —TNS
