Jalandhar, November 9

Gambujia fish were released at the water treatment plant being run by environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewal at Sultanpur Lodhi. This was part of the common review mission of the Health Department, Kapurthala, under Dr Sher Singh and Civil Surgeon Dr Harpreet Singh Kahlon.

Dr Kahlon said Gambujia fish eat larvae in water due to which the spread of malaria and dengue could be stopped. He said by 2020, the department had fixed a target to free the state of malaria.

He said this was only possible when everyone helped in the project. While dropping the fish, epidemiolgist Dr Shobhna Bansal and Dr Guntas were also present at the site.
