Jalandhar, July 10

The city police today busted a gang involved in furnishing fake bail bonds and arrested three of its members. The gang was busted after a judge of a local court told the police about the miscreants.

The accused were identified as Chattar Singh, a resident of Hoshiarpur, Sukhdev Kumar Sharma, a resident of Lambra, and Sunil Kumar Neetu of Jalandhar. A case was registered in this connection under Sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of the IPC at the New Baradari police station.

The gang was allegedly preparing a variety of fake documents, including voter ID cards, registration certificates of vehicles, property “fards”, IDs of numberdars, and even some bail bonds. The police recovered several fake stamps of birth certificate, stamps of Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar, and official stamps required to furnishbail bonds.

The main accused Chattar Singh had recently furnished some bail bonds in the court in which he had shown his identity as Satwinder Singh, a numbardar of Chandpur village. When he was arrested by the police, his real identity had come to the fore. On his disclosure, the police nabbed one Sukhdev Singh who used to prepare fake identity proofs. Then Sunil was also arrested who had submitted bail bonds by concealing his identity.

Station house officer, New Baradri police station, Balwinder Singh Virk, said the accused had been charging Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000 from a person for furnishing fake bail bonds, adding that the gang was active for the past few years and further investigation would be conducted to bust its entire network.

Two POs nabbed

The city police today claimed to have nabbed two proclaimed offenders (POs) who had been at large for the past over five years.

The accused were identified as Sudesh Kumar, a resident of Basti Danishmanda, Jalandhar, and Rajat Kumar, a resident of Ghas Mandi, Jalandhar.

Sources said Sudesh had kidnapped a minor girl in 2009 and had been escaping the police net since then. The duo had later also got married, but they were living at some undisclosed location. On the complaint of the girl’s parents, a kidnapping case was registered against the accused despite their solemnising marriage. A case under Sections 363 and 366 of the IPC was registered against him.

The police said today that they got information that the accused, wanted in a kidnapping case, was roaming in the city and, accordingly, a raid was conducted at the particular place and the accused was nabbed.

In the second case, the city police nabbed one Rajat, wanted by the police in a 2011 theft case. After committing the theft, the accused had been playing hide and seek with the police. Today on the basis of a tip-off, he was nabbed by cops.
