The railway police recovered gold jewellery worth Rs 8 lakh from two Gujarat-based youths at the cantonment railway station today.
The police madethe recovery during aroutine checking at the railway station.
According to the police, two Rajkot-based brothers Sanjay Parkar and Nine Parkar, were travelling in train number 12473 (Happa Express) and unboarded it at the cantonment railway station.
“During routine checking, the GRP staff recovered around 307 gm of gold jewellery from them. When asked, they could not produce any bills for the same,” said the police. Both were later handed over to the Excise and Taxation officials for the recovery of taxes.
The ETO department took the gold jewellery into its custody and asked them to pay around Rs 4 lakh as tax over the jewellery to get it released from the department.
