The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Ranjan Kumar Khullar convicted an accused who had killed his grandmother. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. Rs 1 lakh fine was also imposed on him. If the penalty is not paid, the convictwill have to undergo an additional imprisonment of one year.
A complaint in this regard was lodged on November 29, 2015, by Gurmit Singh Bajwa of Nanda Chaur village under the Bullowal police station. In his complaint, he said at around 5 in the evening, his nephew Harpreet Singh, a resident of Nanda Chor, called him up and said his grandmother Joginder Kaur (75) had been killed by some unknown persons.
Vikramjit Singh, the in charge of the Bullowal police station, reached the spot and examined the case. During the bhog ceremony of Joginder Kaur, her niece Manjeet Kaur told her relatives that Harpreet Singh once had heated arguments with Joginder Kaur and she suspected that Harpreet could have killed Joginder Kaur.
On police interrogation, Harpreet Singh confessed to committing the crime. The police filed a case and arrested him. Today, the court convicted the accused and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
