Jalandhar, May 16

To efficaciously tackle the cyber crime in the city, Commissioner of Police Praveen Kumar Sinha on Wednesday inaugurated a hi-tech cyber crime cell at the local police lines.

Divulging the details after inaugurating the cell, he said the cyber crime was a major challenge for the police and keeping in view the glorious tradition of the Punjab Police to embrace such challenges from the front, the Jalandhar Commissionerate had launched this cell.

He said the ultra modern cell would cater to all complaints pertaining to the crimes being committed through Internet.

Sinha said though the cyber crime was relatively a new domain for the Punjab Police, they would meet the challenge efficiently with the launch of this cell.

There is a need for the police to be equipped with a technical expertise to deal with the complaints related to the cyber crime.

Three teams of highly professional police officers have been constituted for the cell that will work on scientific lines.

The teams had initially got training at PAP Academy in Phillaur. One team will cater to cases related to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Bloggers, Snapchat, WhatsApp and pornography.

The second team will deal with the cases of online fraudulent transactions and ATM frauds.

The third will see the cases of e-mail frauds, tracking of stolen or missing laptops and hacking. People can also lodge their complaints on [email protected].
