Jalandhar, January 13

Even as there is turmoil in the Congress since the release of the last two lists, ex-Mayor Surinder Mahey, who was a claimant from the Jalandhar West seat, today said he might contest independently.

The party had today announced the ticket for Sushil Rinku, sitting councillor. Rinku first became councillor in 2006 MC bypolls after the demise of his father Ram Lal, who was a councillor then. His wife Sunita was a councillor in 2007. Mahey said the party had done a grave injustice to him and had paid a total disregard to the services he rendered for 35 years. “I am totally shocked at ticket going to Rinku has he worked against the party by forming his separate dynamic group of councillors. I have expressed my anger with the party high command on the matter.”

Mahey, who was Jalandhar Mayor in 2002-2007, said, “I have called a meeting of my supporters and will plan the course of action. If the party does not change its decision in a day or so, I will be forced to contest independently.”
