IKGPTU students win prizes at food convention

The staff and students of the Department of Food Engineering, IK Gujral Punjab Technical University participated in the 25th Indian Convention of Food Scientists and Technologists organised jointly by Guru Nanak Dev University, Association of Food Scientists and Technologist (AFST), India, Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysuru and Defence Food Research Laboratory, Mysuru, at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar from November 10-12.

The staff and students of the Department of Food Engineering, IK Gujral Punjab Technical University participated in the 25th Indian Convention of Food Scientists and Technologists organised jointly by Guru Nanak Dev University, Association of Food Scientists and Technologist (AFST), India, Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysuru and Defence Food Research Laboratory, Mysuru, at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar from November 10-12. The selected theme of the conference "Food processing for sustainable agriculture and industry (Food Pro SAI)" focused on the key issues in food science and technology in which more than 180 posters from across India on varied themes were presented, out of which 12 best poster awards were announced by AFST(I). Two best poster awards were bagged by Charu Sharma, student (M.Tech) and Barinderjit Singh, Assistant Professor from IKGPTU for their outstanding research work focusing on bioactive components present in apple and black gram which are beneficial to prevent certain chronic diseases. Dr NP Singh, Dean, planning and development, congratulated the winners.

LKC wins track cycling race

The Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, won the first rank in the event of track cycling in the inter-college competition at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. College Principal Gurpinder Singh Samra congratulated the victorious students and their coach.   Balbir Kaur, president, governing council and Dr Jaspal Singh, HOD, physical education congratulated the victorious sports team. Dr SS Bains, Dean (sports), Prof Tarsem Singh, Prof Vinod Kumar and other staff member were also present on the occassion.

GNA University signs MoU

GNA University and the University of La Verne, California, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for short-term and long-term programmes along with faculty exchange, student exchange and joint-research programs.  The University of La Verne is a private not-for-profit university in La Verne, California, United States. Dr Abrahim Helou, Dean and Professor of Finance in the College of Business and Public Management; TJ Barring from JNB Group and Reema Ravish, research scholar; Gurdeep Singh Sihra, pro chancellor, Dr Prem Kumar, vice chancellor; Sunil Sarad, registrar of GNA University were present on the signing ceremony of MoU at GNA University. This MOU will facilitate the mutual sharing of best practices and expertise in learning.

Cake-mixing ceremony 

To commemorate the pre-Christmas celebrations, students of hotel management organised a cake mixing ceremony at CT Institute of Hotel Management, Shahpur Campus, on Tuesday. Students prepared a pre-mixture for Christmas cakes in which variety of dry fruits were mixed and soaked in wine, brandy and rum for fortnight. The event was organised as a ritual which has to be done before Christmas Eve in order to prepare flavoured plum cakes. Dr Rohit Sarin, Director, CTIHM, said the institute had already started preparations of making a special kind of cake which may weigh up to 100 kg. The age-old ceremony of cake mixing starts a few months before Christmas and is considered to be an usher for good tidings and happiness. Charanjit Singh Channi, Chairman, CT Group of Institutions, appreciated the efforts and participation of students.

Annual fest 'One World' celebrated at LPU

Providing a common platform to international students from 40 countries to represent heritage of their respective country, Lovely Profession University began its two-day annual international fest 'One World' on Tuesday. This year, the festival is being celebrated on the theme of "promoting world peace". Ambassador of Eritrea Alem TsehayeWorldemariam, Ambassador of Niger Illiassou Ali and Ambassador of Mali Samake Niankoro Yeah inaugurated the international cultural extravaganza at the campus. Prior to this, the fest was flagged off for 2-km-long colourful cultural procession which comprised more than 40 international tableaus. Nearly 2,000 international students mesmerised more than 30,000- campus audiences with dresses, ornaments and other attributes of their respective country. LPU Chancellor Ashok Mittal said such celebrations help students in strengthening bonds of unity in diversity and inculcating global values and understanding.
