Eklavya School celebrated International Civil Aviation Day on Wednesday. It is celebrated for the people of the aviation community like people serving in air traffic control, airport management, airlines and in aircrafts. Sienna of Class VI gave a speech on the significance of the day. A movie was shown to students regarding civil aviation. Students took part in a group discussion on the topic. The purpose of the global celebration is to develop and reinforce the importance of international aviation in social and economic development. School director Seema Handa, manager Sapna Bakshi and principal Dimpal Sharma appreciated the efforts of the students and motivated them.
Industrial visit
Students of the department of bio-informatics, KMV, visited NIPER, Mohali. They interacted with scientists present there. Practical information was imparted to students regarding instruments used in NIPER for research. The highlight of the visit was pharmaceutical heritage centre where students saw various ancient equipment and materials. Principal Prof Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated the department for successful organisation of the trip.
Joint campus recruitment drive organised
IKG Punjab Technical University has organised a joint campus semester training drive at Lyallpur Khalsa College of Engineering. Research Wire Company from Navi Mumbai visited the campus to place students for training of electronic and communication engineering department. More than 50 students from seven different institutes participated in the drive. Out of eight, five students were selected - two students were from Lyallpur Khalsa College of Engineering. As told by the training and placement officer, Er Swarnpreet Singh Saini, the selected candidates would get a stipend of Rs 15,000 per month plus bonus for the training period of six months and then they would get placed according to their performance. Sukhbir Singh Chath, director, academic affairs, KCL Group of Institutes, YS Randhawa, Director, LKCE and Navdeepak Sandhu, deputy director corporate relations, PTU congratulated the students.
Stock market operations discussed
Post graduate department of commerce and management of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya organised an industrial visit to Ludhiana Stock and Capital Ltd, for the students of BVoc banking and financial services. The visit was organised with a view to impart practical knowledge to the students of various operations of the stock market. Atul Chikersal, executive, Ludhiana Stock and Capital Ltd explained various stock market operations, scams of stock market and precautions to be taken while investing in the stock market. Company officer Silvi Malhotra gave practical insights into trading operations of the market. Principal Prof Ajay Sareen appreciated the efforts of Head of commerce department Kanwaldeep Kaur and Assistant Prof Minakshi Duggal.
Faculty development programme
A faculty development programme was organised at the Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar. In the programme, Gurvinder Singh, Dean, faculty of engineering and technology, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, was the chief guest of the day. He is the recipient of many awards, including Rashtriya Shiksha Rattan Award and has to his credit nearly 100 research publications. He focused on the idea that times are changing and we have to move along with changing scenarios to keep pace with the global connections. He said the research should be more connected with real life and it should be more genuine. Dr Sucharita, principal of the college, said such programmes were important for the development of the college as well as teachers. —TNS
