Indian Youth Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today advocated for an economy-based reservation "in the interest of the genuinely poor people who are being left behind”.

Answering a query of a youth on the issue at a convention titled "Mission-2017" at Bhogpur (falling in the reserved Adampur constituency) today, the IYC chief replied, “The provisions of caste-based reservation in the Constitution had been laid to empower the downtrodden sections according to the situation in those times. But there should be a change in the coming time so as to take care of the poor people from general categories too.”

Later during a media interaction, the Gidderbaha legislator clarified, “What I said was in my personal capacity and not as a party man. I am not for changing the existing Constitutional pattern on reservation. My idea is that whenever any further reservation is brought about, the basis should be economy.”

On the issue of his video wherein he is seen apologising in the Vidhan Sabha during a discussion with Akali MLA Virsa Singh Valtoha, Warring reacted, “The Akalis are using the cameras of the Vidhan Sabha for the selective leaks of the proceedings. They are tinkering with the videos to point things the way they want to. They did not show the exact context in which things were said. They did the same with our new CLP Leader Charanjit Singh Channi. The SAD-BJP leaders too fumble on issues but we cannot have an access to those videos from the Assembly since we are out of power.”

Earlier during interaction with the youth, the IYC president attacked Badals. “Had I been in Charanjit Channi’s position, I would have told Sukhbir Badal on his face in the Assembly that the biggest achievement of our PPCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh was to send you and your father to the jail.” Most questions asked by the youth pertained to job opportunities, false FIRs and distribution of tickets by the party.

PYC chief Amarpreet Lally also attended the event. The convention at Bhogpur was organised by Jalandhar Lok Sabha Youth Congress president Ashwin Bhalla while that at Jalandhar Cantonment was conducted by Angad Dutta, Assembly constituency president.
