Jalandhar, October 15
Much to the dismay of the World Kabaddi League (WKL) officials, the floodlights of Guru Gobind Singh Stadium were found to be non-functional during the recent inspection carried out by them.
It was found that one tower of floodlights became non-functional a year ago due to the outbreak of fire in the nearby locality.
The Jalandhar Improvement Trust (JIT) officials showed ignorance about it that who gave permission to the WKL authorities to hold international matches, to be commenced from October 22.
When asked, the WKL officials said the matter was taken up with the officials of the Jalandhar Improvement Trust (JIT) and the repair work had already begun.
“The JIT has assured us to hand over the stadium a day before the commencement of the tournament. Since it is a day and night tournament, the floodlights are important to hold the show,” said Ranbir Singh Tut, Additional Commissioner, WKL.
“The first phase of the WKL will be played at the Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, Jalandhar, whereas the second phase will be played at Mohali Hockey Stadium from November 11 to 19,” he added.
