Improper and inadequate sewage treatment has infuriated the residents of Avtar Nagar, Guru Nanak Pura East. Reportedly, it’s been more than twenty days that the leakage of the sewage treatment plant has been taking place, but no adequate action has been taken by the authorities to repair the drains.

Commuters find it difficult to cross the area for the fear of slithering into the drainage, and the filthy water spilled all over the road is equally posing a danger by becoming a den of mosquitoes and insects.

One of the residents of Avtar Nagar said, it is a regular sight of the streets there. Authorities have been informed about the menace several times but no concrete step has been take in this regard.

As the street also leads to the other major nearby locations of the area therefore, people have no other option but to pass through the dismantled street. Also, incidents of diseases such as dengue and malaria were also reported among the residents.

Another resident, Kamaljit Singh said, “Many a times our clothes gets dirty while driving over the filthy water flowing from the sewers and the foul smell is another big challenge for the commuters.”

However, Manjinder Singh Chattha, the councillor of the ward was also aware of the unhealthy situation of the locality but couldn’t take action because of the lack of response of the Municipal Council (MC), he claimed.

He said, “We are aiming at initiating the repair work, that would be presented in the next MC house meeting. Moreover he added, there is a huge problem of rats in the streets that bite off the already poor quality sewage pipes.

The whole sewerage connection needs a repair work which would be initiated in the near time and within four to five months, a temporary repair would be completed,” said Chattha while assuring the residents.
