Make Jalandhar leading district in ‘Tandarust Punjab’ Mission, says DC

JALANDHAR: Envisioning “Tandarust Punjab” mission as a mass movement to transform Punjab into the healthiest state by creating a good living environment for the people through better air, water and food quality, the Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma has told all departments to pull out all stops to ensure that Jalandhar emerges as the leading district under the mission.

Envisioning “Tandarust Punjab” mission as a mass movement to transform Punjab into the healthiest state by creating a good living environment for the people through better air, water and food quality, the Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma has told all departments to pull out all stops to ensure that Jalandhar emerges as the leading district under the mission.

In a communiqué to all departments, the Deputy Commissioner said the mission could act as a game changer to ensure the overall wellness of all residents of the district. He said all the departments must zealously implement this mission by chalking out a time-bound action plan and strategy so as to make Jalandhar a clean, green, pollution-free and healthy district.

Sharma said efforts must be made to ensure that the benefits of this mass campaign at the grassroots level so that people could avail these.

The Deputy Commissioner said the Health and Family Welfare Department would make people aware about the food safety concerns and effective implementation of the Food Safety Act, prevent sale of spurious and unauthorised medicines, create awareness about communicable and non-communicable diseases, besides undertaking free health screening of all residents above the age of 30. Likewise, Sharma said the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation would ensure adequate potable drinking water availability in rural areas and eliminate open defecation.

The Deputy Commissioner further said the Transport Department would ensure regular drives for checking vehicular pollution and Department of Environment would undertake regular monitoring to ensure ambient air quality, adding that it would also check industrial pollution and ensure effluents/emissions within laid down norms. He said that other departments like Local Government, Agriculture, Cooperation, Forests (Ghar Ghar Hariyali), Sports, Public Works, Water Resources and Rural Development and Panchayats would also be involved in the mission.
