Mashal march to boost admissions in government schools in dist

JALANDHAR:A first-of-its-kind unique mashal march was carried out here today to give a boost to students’ numbers in government schools of the district in the upcoming session.

A first-of-its-kind unique mashal march was carried out here today to give a boost to students’ numbers in government schools of the district in the upcoming session.

Envisioned under the Parho Punjab Parhao Punjab project by the state Education Department, the main motive of the march is to spread awareness among students of education and various facilities of the Education Department as well as to make them aware of the admission norms.

Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma, called upon academicians to zealously pursue the cause of spreading education in the district as he flagged off the march in the Ladowali Road area today.

DEO (elementary) Rampal said: “While the Ludhiana team handed over the firelight to us yesterday, we traversed various areas today before finally reaching the Lohian sub-division from where the Kapurthala team took over the firelight from us. Pamphlets were distributed on the way among students and awareness regarding the admission process was also given.”

Starting from Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Ladowali Road, the march traversed across the BMC Chowk, Guru Ravidass Chowk, Wadala Chowk, Tajpur, Pratapura, Udhopur, Jagral, Jamsher, Jandiala, Shankar, Nakodar, Pandori, heading to Shahkot, Pubhian, Kakarkalan and Lohian.

Addressing the gathering before flagging off the mashal yatra, from the government girls school, Ladowali Road, the DC said the academicians and educationists should come forward and play an important role in disseminating the message of education in the district.

The DC said this was a noble cause, which was the need of the hour, to ensure comprehensive development of every strata of society.

Sharma said such events were important as it could make people aware about the need for having quality education, adding that children from underprivileged and weaker sections could be benefited from it. District education officer Darshan Singh, district guidance counsellor Surjit Lal, deputy district education officer Gurpreet Kaur were among those others present.
