MC to submit upgraded smart city proposal today

JALANDHAR: Municipal Corporation of Jalandhar (MCJ) is all set to submit the upgraded proposal of smart city to the State Steering Committee tomorrow.

Municipal Corporation of Jalandhar (MCJ) is all set to submit the upgraded proposal of smart city to the State Steering Committee tomorrow.

While informing this, Mayor Sunil Jyoti said development works in the city had been proposed for Rs 1,984 crore and citizen participation had also increased from 7 to 35 per cent this year. Around 3.58 lakh people voted online to support the project in favour of the city. A special logo had also been designed for the city this year.

While the MCJ has kept a budget of Rs 919.6 crore for the Smart City Project, it has proposed a budget of Rs 567.13 crore for making the city a sports hub. Also, it has proposed a budget of Rs 124.88 crore to provide public transportation.

While the civic body has planned to upgrade the existing transport infrastructure with an estimated amount of Rs 196.75 crore, it has also planned get various grants from various state and Central Government schemes.

During online voting, solid waste management got the maximum support with around 72,856 people voting for the project. The project has been scrapped from the city after the Jindal company terminated its contract a few days ago.
