Ministers exhort youth to make state drug-free

JALANDHAR: Public Works Department (PWD) Minister, Punjab, Vijay Inder Singla, on Friday gave a clarion call to the youth of the state to come forward and spread the message of anti-drug drive initiated by the state government.

Public Works Department (PWD) Minister, Punjab, Vijay Inder Singla, on Friday gave a clarion call to the youth of the state to come forward and spread the message of anti-drug drive initiated by the state government.

Addressing a massive gathering here at the local Guru Gobind Singh Stadium during a marathon— “Run for Rahul” organised by the Punjab Youth Congress here on Friday, the minister said the special task force (STF) constituted by the state government was attempting to snap the supply line of drugs.

The minister said now the onus of spreading this message of drug free Punjab was on the shoulders of the youth. He said it was the high time when the youth of the state must come forward and disseminate it to every section of the society in the coming days.

Lauding the Punjab Youth Congress president Amarpreet Singh Lally for taking the initiative of organising the mega marathon to create awareness amongst the youth, the minister said it was the need of the hour to galvanise the youth against the cause of drugs.

Earlier, in his address Lok Sabha MP from Jalandhar Chaudhary Santokh Singh said the youth of Punjab had always played a pivotal role in leading the country in several fields.

He said now the time had come when the youngsters must play a leading role in making Punjab a healthy and drug-free state.

Former Punjab minister and MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh hailed the initiative of the Youth Congress to hold the marathon. He said this marathon would act as a milestone towards making the drive against drugs a mass movement. Lauding the CM for breaking the backbone of drug peddlers in the state, he said on this solemn occasion the youth must resolve to fulfil the dream of the CM to make Punjab a drug-free state.

In their address, MLAs Pargat Singh, Rajinder Beri, Hardev Singh Laddi Sherowalia and Sushil Kumar Rinku also lauded the Punjab Youth Congress for organising the event.
