Mithapur villagers have accused Congress MLA Pargat Singh of harassing them by threatening to use police against them.

At a press conference today, some villagers accused him of forcing them to join the Congress, “failing which he threatened to implicate them in false police cases”. “When we refused to join the Congress, he had lodged a false complaint against my brother Gurmel Singh who is SAD worker,” alleged Gurdial Singh.

He further said that some people allegedly sold Pargat Singh’s 15-marla plot illegally around 2.5 years ago in the Mithapur area. “Even though he got the accused arrested who later came out on bail, he now got the name of my brother registered in the FIR,” alleged Gurdial. The family had met Police Commissioner Praveen Singh and DCP Rajinder Singh and urged them to hold an inquiry into the matter and provide justice to them. Despite attempts, Pargat Singh could not be contacted. — TNS
