Jalandhar, February 22

To encourage the use of renewable energy in the state, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has decided to set up 2,000 tubewells based on solar energy. Farmers who opt for it would be provided with 40 per cent subsidy.

NABARD today organised a workshop relating to agricultural issues with the Agricultural Cooperative Staff Training Institute.
Addressing a workshop today, DGM M Biswas said solar energy is free of cost, as it is provided by nature. By using solar energy, the scarcity of power in the state can be reduced.
He said it takes Rs 6.30 lakh to install solar energy for a 5-hour power tubewell. Farmers can get Rs 1.94 lakh subsidy on it.
M Biswas said, “Punjab is considered to be the first state that has been encouraging the renewable energy.”  He said the scheme has been launched on ‘first come, first serve’ basis. AGM, NABARD, Ramesh Chander provided information about agri-clinic and agri-business in detail.
