The Punjab Parents Association today wrote a letter to Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh seeking the implementation of the High Court’s order on private schools in the state.

Kamaldeep Singh, a representative of the association, said the high fee structures imposed on parents by private schools should be taken back immediately. He said the High Court had restricted private schools from imposing annual charges and other such charges. However, such things have been going unchecked.

Parents are irked at high fee, costly books and uniform expenses with the beginning of the new academic session in schools. “Despite the Regulation Act, private schools have been asking parents to buy substandard books and stationery among many other things, which should be stopped,” he added. He said the salary of private school teachers should be at par with government teachers. “Quality education should be provided at government schools to make education affordable,” he added.
