Terming the decision taken by the state government to recruit 306 doctors in Punjab Civil Medical Services (PCMS) at the basic salary for three years as unfortunate, the Senior Retired PCMS Association has termed it against the interest of doctors and general public.

Dr Ajay Bagga and Dr Kaushal Singh Saini (both retired civil surgeons and conveners of the association) said the Health Department wanted the services of needed doctors to improve health services in the public sector.

However, doctors would not be attracted towards the PCMS, as in the advertisement it had been stated that in the first three years of their service they would get only basic salary. They said probably the Punjab Finance Department had not accepted the recommendations of the Health Department to recruit doctors on full salary. They also said the government should pay higher salary to the specialists.

They requested the Chief Minister to look into the matter and direct the Finance Department to grant permission for their recruitment on full salary.
