Jalandhar, April 21

To inculcate a sense of fire safety among city residents, the Fire Department organised a workshop on fire safety measures and started an awareness campaign here on Friday.

The department also observed a fire safety week from April 14 to April 20. It concluded the fire safety week by organising a workshop and a fire safety competition at schools on Friday. The department gave in-hand training to residents regarding fire extinguishers and made children aware of various safety measures.

Vehicles of the local fire brigade were taken around the town to create awareness regarding fire safety measures among residents on the occasion of Fire Service Day.

A two-minute silence was also observed in the memory of all those firemen who sacrificed their lives for the country.

Fire engines and a water bowser passed through various areas of the city and organised mock drills at various places such as Indian Oil Company, factories and hospitals to create awareness about fire safety among workers and labours.

Rajinder Sharma, sub- fire officer, Jalandhar, said such drives would continue in the future too and they would create awareness about fire safety by visiting various places in the city.

The fire officer said people should learn how to use fire extinguishers in an emergency. Building owners should take precautionary measures and ensure fire-safety arrangements to avoid any fire tragedy in future.
