Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohaematology (ISBTI) has urged the people to come forward to donate blood willingly tomorrow (June 14) on the occasion of World Blood Donation Day.

Dr Ajay Bagga, the patron of the Punjab unit of ISBTI, Vice President Harish Saini and Convenor Prof Bahadur Singh appealed the people to celebrate World Blood Donation Day on June 14. They said this day is celebrated in the memory of Dr Karl Landsteiner (who had discovered A, B, O Groups in Blood), known as the father of transfusion.

ISBTI office bearers said Dr Karl’s discovery had proved to be helpful in saving precious lives of innumerable patients. They expressed their gratitude towards the blood donors for it and said all healthy citizens from 18 to 65 years of age having 45 kg or more weight and hemoglobin 12.5 should adopt blood donation as part of their lifestyle.

Prof Bahadur Singh Suneet said in India, ISBTI is the only institution where people from every background are simultaneously running awareness programs for blood donation.
