After a green light by the state government on having a medical college in Jalandhar, the PIMS Employees Union Association held a meeting on the issue in the district.
After the meeting, members of the union decided that for the betterment of Jalandhar as well as Doaba, PIMS Medical College should be taken away from private hands and be run by the government.
The union sent a report regarding PIMS to the Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar. A demand letter regarding the bringing of PIMS under the government was also sent to the Chief Minister of Punjab as well as Principal Secretary, Suresh Kumar. The demand letter stated that the institute, which is spread on 68 acres, be brought under the state government for the betterment of the Doaba region.
Members said demand letters shall also be given to all MLAs of Jalandhar in this regard. They also said that a request shall be made that PIMS be brought under the government control.
On the occasion, employees also said that the state of affairs at PIMS were worse than a private hospital. They said neither was the management paying heed to the demands of employees nor were the health facilities at PIMS any good.
