POCSO Act: DSPs, SHOs told about legal procedures

JALANDHAR: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), SBS Nagar, organised a seminar here on Wednesday to make DSPs and SHOs of the legal procedures followed in cases registered under the POCSO Act, 2012.

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), SBS Nagar, organised a seminar here on Wednesday to make DSPs and SHOs of the legal procedures followed in cases registered under the POCSO Act, 2012. A discussion on the Victims Compensation Act, 2017, was also held at the seminar.

Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Parinder Singh, who is also the secretary of the DLSA, interacted with the police officers at the SSP’s office. He asked them to make sure that the child victim is not called at the police station for recording his or her statement.

The police officers were told about the important legal aspects related to the POCSO Act.

Talking about the Victim Compensation Act, 2017, the CJM stressed on the need for the dissemination of information in the form of banners and pamphlets at police stations and saanjh kendras.

There is a provision of compensation up to Rs 5 lakh in the Act as per the grievous nature of the crime. Those who want to file a claim for the compensation can avail the chance within three years of the crime. The application can be forwarded to the DLSA or State Legal Services Authority.

SP Harish Dayama asked police officers to abide by all legal aspects carefully during the registration of a case under the POCSO Act.

Similarly, all SHOs and saanjh kendra In charges were directed to display the banners of the Victim Compensation Act, 2017, so that the maximum number of people could be benefitted.
