A team of the Jammu-Kashmir Police conducted a raid in Hoshiarpur and arrested an accused in a poppy husk smuggling case.
According to information, a case was registered under the NDPS Act in Jammu and Kashmir’s Jajjer Kotli Police Station under which a police party from there reached here to arrest a youth named Karan Rahela, a resident of Gobind Nagar, near Fatehgarh Chungi and his accomplice.
Head Constable Ratan Chand, who came from Jammu, said a Tata 407, which was going from Jammu to Punjab, was stopped for checking a few days ago. Taking advantage of the darkness, two men aboard the vehicle had escaped and when a search was done, 30 kg of poppy husk was recovered from the vehicle. They said when the number of the vehicle was traced by the police, it was found that the vehicle belonged to someone of the town Garhshankar in Hoshiarpur district. In the inquiry, the owner of the car said his known person in Hoshiarpur named Karan Rahela and his colleague Raju had taken the vehicle for carrying goods. According to information received by the police, the case was lodged against the accused and the investigation was started. In the same sequence, the police had a tip off to arrest Karan Rahela in Hoshiarpur and conducting a raid based on a tip-off, it managed to arrest Karan with the help of Hoshiarpur Police, while the other accomplice Raju was at large and his search continued.
