PPA to be made ‘plastic-free zone’

PHILLAUR: Keeping in view the hazardous effects of plastic on environment and human health, the officers of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Police Academy Philaur have decided to make the academy a ‘Plastic-free zone’ under the “Tandarust Punjab Mission”.

Keeping in view the hazardous effects of plastic on environment and human health, the officers of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Police Academy Philaur have decided to make the academy a ‘Plastic-free zone’ under the “Tandarust Punjab Mission”.

Director of the Academy Anita Punj said plastic played a major havoc with the health of the residents due to which the officers of the academy had decided to get rid of this menace. She said keeping in view the lurking danger on environment ‘Plastic Ghatao, Vartmaan Bachao’ the campaign had been initiated in the academy. Punj said the main aim of the campaign was to make trainees aware of the bad effects of plastic.

The director said this campaign would be transformed into a movement whereby trainees could play a vital role in eradicating the menace of using plastic products. She said as a part of this campaign, a mass cleaning drive against discarded plastic was held in the campus. Punj also said during the drive, the officers, trainees and staff members volunteered their service by picking waste material and making the campus plastic free.

The director also said the officers had been urged to make children a part of the campaign against menace. She also laid emphasis on avoiding use of single-use plastic products like water bottles and plastic carry bags.

She said across the country such anti-plastic campaigns had been taking place, which was reflective of the nationwide desire to take on the growing issue of plastic pollution and waste management.
