Punjab Students Union (PSU) will hold a convention at the local Desh Bhagat Yadgaar Hall and a march in the district on February 28 in support of the right to autonomy of the Kashmiri people as well as against the labelling of struggle of the Kashmiris as terrorism.

Babar Qadri from the Kashmir Lawyers’ Association, Rashid Maqbool, the Editor of the Rising Kashmir newspaper and Gautam Navlakha from the People’s Union for Democratic Rights would address the press conference.

During a press conference here today, state president Rajinder Singh, vice secretary Karamjit Kotkapura, and press secretary Mangaljit, said to know the struggle of the Kashmiri people, a team of the PSU visited Kashmir for 15 days. They said they met Hurriyat Conference, Kashmiri pandits, student leaders and journalists.

The PSU students said during the tour, a lot of false news was found to be spread regarding Kashmir. The students said a report regarding this would also be released by the Punjab Students Union Convention.

They said limiting the struggle of Kashmiris to stone pelting would be an injustice with them because their struggle had historic background to it.

They said while the political leadership of India and Pakistan was sidelining Kashmir, the struggles of the Kashmiris was being defamed. They said the state-level convention would be held to bring to the fore this reality.

The unions called for groups fighting for justice, intellectuals, journalists, writers, lawyers, and academicians to participate in the convention.
