While quitting the SAD and moving to the Congress has benefited Pargat Singh, who has won with a huge margin, it has not proven advantageous for former MLA Jagbir Brar. Brar had left the SAD in the middle of his tenure as MLA from Jalandhar Cantonment to join the People’s Party of Punjab started by his cousin Manpreet Badal. Before 2012 polls, he had moved to the Congress and contested on the seat for it but lost to Pargat, who was with SAD at that time. While he was adamant on getting the ticket from Jalandhar Cantonment, Pargat Singh’s entry into the party with the support of Navjot Sidhu spoiled his plans. He had to move to Nakodar where he could not make a mark.—TNS
