RCF gets coveted award for environment management

Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala has been awarded the prestigious Golden Peacock Environment Management Award for achieving excellence in environment management. The award was presented by Justice Dr Arijit Pasayat, former Judge, Supreme Court of India to Hemant Kumar, Member (Mechanical), Railway Board, and PC Gupta, Chief Mechanical Engineer, RCF at the 18th World Congress on Environment Management held at New Delhi. Golden Peacock Award is given away by the World Environment Foundation, New Delhi. This is for the fifth time that the RCF has been bestowed this coveted prize in the field of environment management, the earlier instances being in the year 2014, 2011, 2009 and 2008.

To make railway track clean, the RCF introduced biological toilets in which bacterial action converts waste into liquid and gas making it a zero discharge toilet. Indian Railways is now introducing this technology in all the coaches. Solar energy is also being harnessed for optimal usage. Effluent treatment plant is being used for treating 10,500 KL of water per day, a part of which is recycled for use in non-drinking activities like watering of lawns and grounds.
