Jalandhar, June 11

A park was constructed last year by the authorities has not been opened for the public so far. Residents have written a letter to the Sub Divisional Magistrate that has failed to yield any response.

RTI activist Gaurav Jain said the park was created on the Nakodar Municipal Council land khasra number 1475 in 90 kanal and 10 marla. The land also contained a pond in 30 to 40 kanal that was filled to create the park. However, the park has not been opened for the public yet. He said apart from planting grass, the park was equipped with fountains, but was of no use as the general public cannot re-energise themselves there due to the negligence of the authorities.

“I have written letters to Nakodar SDM Amrit Singh with a copy sent to the Chief Secretary and Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner, yet no initiative has been taken to get the public access to the park,” he added.

“I have also sought information under the RTI Act from Municipal Council Nakodar more than a month ago, yet no one has bothered to answer me. Meanwhile, I have appealed to the Deputy Director, Local Bodies, after receiving no information under the RTI,” said Jain. Nakodar SDM Amrit Singh said she would get the matter checked before she could comment.
