RTI makes democracy work for the people in real sense: SP Joshi

HOSHIARPUR: Panjab University SSG Regional Centre, Hoshiarpur in collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration Regional Centre organised a one-day awareness camp on the Right to Information Act 2005.

Panjab University SSG Regional Centre, Hoshiarpur in collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration Regional Centre organised a one-day awareness camp on the Right to Information Act 2005.

Prof HS Bains, Director PUSSGRC, Hoshiarpur & Dean Faculty of Engineering of Technology, Panjab University, Chandigarh inaugurated the Programme. In his inaugural address, he thanked MGSIPA for selecting their campus for conducting this programme. He also requested the students to take part in the programme whole heartedly and enrich their knowledge regarding this act.

SP Joshi, retired DCP now General Manager Administration started the proceedings. Joshi, in his brief address apprised the participants of the objective of the Right to Information Act. The RTI ACT further empowers the citizens, promotes probity, transparency and accountability in the working of the every public authority, contain corruption and make our democracy work for the people in real sense.

S Darshan Singh was the Expert Resource Person. He sensitised the gathering with the definition of information, public authority, public information officer, APIOS, fees for seeking information, fees for below poverty line applicants, format of application, information exercise exempted from disclosure, time period for supply of information, third party information and complaints under RTI ACT.

In the end, the Director of the campus thanked the MGSIPA for conducting this valuable & knowledgeable workshop.
