Devised 6 months ago by Deputy Commissioner Vipul Ujwal, with a motive to uplift the government schools, the idea of ‘Samarpan’ has been a grand success. The state government would be promoting it as a role model for other districts as well.

Targeted to uplift the government schools through community mobilization, ‘Samarpan’, in a short period of 6 months, has 17,000 members including Industrial Minister Sunder Sham Arora, Local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, MLA Dr. Rajkumar and several other renowned personalities of business, politics and people from all walks of life. Education Minister OP Soni was so impressed with this initiative that he himself became a member of the initiative and announced grant by the government for the initiative besides a contribution of Rs 5 lakh from his funds. Under this project, the schools would be equipped with basic infrastructure like benches, tubelights, fans, modern green boards, first aid kits and RO and water purifiers.

Soni who headed the first district-level function of Samarpan said it was a unique idea and we would like to initiate it in whole of Punjab. “I will talk to the Deputy Commissioners of all the districts of Punjab to come forward and take-up projects like Samarpan so as to uplift the education with help of the community mobilization and partnership. Projects like Samarpan are the need of the hour and we will ensure that similar projects are initiated in all districts,” said he.

DC Vipul Ujwal said, “Born with the district Education Department, Smarpan is everybody’s child now. We have about 17,000 members who have become the part of this initiative and a sum of about Rs 60 lakh has been collected. He said initially the desks would be provided to the schools along with ROs, fans, green board and first aid box and as it advances the focus will be on other requirements and advancements in schools.”
