Jalandhar, August 18

The rural police today arrested two persons, including a school bus driver, with 2 quintals and 18 kg of “chura post” and Rs 40,000.

The accused were identified as Jaspal Singh, alias Bhaiya (38), and Hardip Singh (30), the main accused in the matter.

Hardip said he was working as a bus driver in a prominent school in Kapurthala and had got in touch with Arshad, a resident of Jammu and Kashmir, through a common friend.

He said he used to buy intoxicants from Arshad through a peddler, but later began to have direct dealing with him. Hardip had bought over 20 kg of “chura post” from Arshad around five months ago and had recently sought eight sacks of the intoxicants, which he brought for him by hiding inside a hidden chamber of his truck.

Recently, he had again demanded 12 sacks of “chura post”, which the police recovered from them. A police team was also sent to Jammu and Kashmir to locate Arshad.

SSP (Rural) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said a police team caught Jaspal near the bus stand of Patar Kalan village. He was carrying a plastic bag on his head. When a police team asked him to stop, he became nervous and tried to flee from the spot. However, he was caught and gave information about the hideout of Hardip Singh in the village.

When a police team raided the spot, it found over 11 sacks of “chura post” and also arrested Hardip from the spot.

The police recovered Rs 40,000 and a motorcycle from their possession.
