Environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewal has now devised a solution for solid waste treatment in the state. A machine has been created at the Sant Avtar Singh Yadgari Technical Research Centre with instructions from the environmentalist. The ‘Short Machine’, which can be made cheaply, can separate the various kinds of things which comprise garbage.
Polythenes, glass, iron and other heavy things in garbage can be separated with the help of this machine, the mud or soil in it can also be separated, which can then be used as manure. The model is already being used by Seechewal with some amount of some success.
Further tests to check and increase the effectiveness of this machine are currently on.
The environmentalist said while solid waste had rendered villages and cities dirty, some big companies eye solid waste, merely as a means to rake in big money. With the use of this machine, the big piles of stinking garbage and dirt piles could be treated and changes into something more useful.
Notably, the environmentalist has already successfully been noted for introducing the plan to conserve water from ponds and further to be routed for irrigation which has gained nationwide accolades.
