Jalandhar, February 19

As many as 90,032 eligible persons have enrolled their names in the voters’ list so far for the SGPC polls in Jalandhar district.

Reviewing the progress of voters’ registration drive, Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal directed the officials to ensure that no eligible voter was left without registration in the list.

He stated that special camps were being held across the district to facilitate voters to register themselves for the upcoming SGPC polls so that they could exercise their franchise.

The DC asked all SDMs to personally monitor the exercise of voter’s registration in their respective areas. He said special camps had received massive response in the district with over 85,000 persons applying for registration so far.

He said the district had six SGPC constituencies - Phillaur, Nakodar, Shahkot, Adampur, Jalandhar city and Kartarpur. He mentioned that all Block Development and Panchayats Officers (BDPOs) were ensuring public announcements in villages so that a maximum number of people could register as voters for the SGPC elections. He also urged representatives of Sikh organisations in sensitising people to register as voters.
