Jalandhar, February 21

The fathers of students, studying in Shiv Jyoti School, today held a protest in the morning by taking off their shirts against the school administration for allegedly hiking the fee and restricting those students from appearing in the examinations who have failed to deposit the annual charges.

Speaking to Jalandhar Tribune, Kamaljit Singh, crusader for educational reforms in Jalandhar, said, “The parents were upset after they got the notice. They went to the school to discuss the matter with the school principal. The principal refused to meet parents that resulted in their protest. The police also intervened in the matter to defuse the tension.”

He said a case relating to fee hike and annual charges has been in court. In between, the school issued notices to students for not letting them appear in the examination for not depositing the annual charges.

Kamaljit Singh also alleged that the privates schools have been hiking the fee and annual charges without prior approval from the committee concerned. That is why, a case has been filed in the court. He said the matter was resolved after the parents agreed to deposit the annual charges in the court as the matter is sub-judice.

School principal Ravi Suta said, “If the court case goes on for a couple of years, we cannot wait until the case is finished. Meanwhile, the parents have agreed to deposit the annual charges in the bank as per the terms and conditions set by the school. We can refund the fee if the court asks us to do so.”
