Shiv Sena flays cow vigilantes

PHAGWARA: Punjab Shiv Sena on Tuesday lambasted certain “unscrupulous” cow vigilantes for indulging in provocative and violent acts in the name of cow protection, thereby vitiating the interfaith harmony.

Punjab Shiv Sena on Tuesday lambasted certain “unscrupulous” cow vigilantes for indulging in provocative and violent acts in the name of cow protection, thereby vitiating the interfaith harmony. Sena’s state vice-president Rajesh Palta and spokesman Vipin Sharma said stringent legal provisions for protecting cows was the answer to the problem, not the “wayward, aggressive and provocative behaviour” of certain ‘gau sevaks’ (cow protectors), who thrash people from a particular community and upload videos of their “stunts” on the social media. They said certain self-styled cow protectors had made ‘gau seva’ (cow protection) their means of livelihood and a source of minting money.

2 arrested with drugs

Phagwara: Two drug peddlers were arrested from Phagwara on Tuesday, the police said. They were identified as Satnam Singh, alias Sabi, of Nadalon and Kamaljit, alias Kambi, of Malan villages in the district. As many as 10 bottles of liquor were seized from Sabi while 80 intoxicating tablets were recovered from Kambi. Sabi was arrested under the Excise Act while Kambi was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the police said.

LPG cylinders, cash stolen from house

Phagwara: Two LPG cylinders and Rs 12,000 in cash were reportedly stolen from the house of a sweetmeat shop owner, Sanjay Kumar, in the local Regency Town here on Tuesday. The victim went to the local market to purchase something and found the items stolen when he returned home. A case has been registered.
