Stress laid on water conservation

The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) (General), Jasbir Singh, today lauded the contribution made by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in the rural and agriculture development of the state, in general, and the district in particular.

Launching the credit projections for the potential linked credit Plan (PLP) 2018-19 for Jalandhar district, the ADC expressed gratitude to NABARD for its fulsome support for ensuring the overall development of the district and prosperity of its people, especially in the rural sector through its flagship programmes and schemes. 

However, he said still a lot more was to be done for improving the economic condition of the unprivileged sections of society residing in villages, grappling with penury and living in pathetic conditions without basic civic amenities, education and healthcare facilities.

Meanwhile, lead bank manager (LDM) Watan Singh and district development manager (DDM) NABARD LK Mehra said the PLP represents an effort at making projections of the credit requirements in different sectors in the district taking into account the long-term potential, availability of infrastructure, marketing support, credit absorption capacity and other strengths and weaknesses of the credit delivery system at the district level.  They said the theme for the PLP 2018-19 was “Water Conservation - per drop, more crop’ with adequate focus on activities which have the potential for  the efficient use of water. 

The priority sector credit potential under various sectors has been assessed by NABARD at Rs 12781.88 crore for the financial year 2018-19 which was around 12% higher than the projections for the year 2017-18. The share of the agriculture and allied sector was around 51% of the total projections and remaining projections are for micro small and medium enterprises (MSME) and other priority sectors.
