Jalandhar, October 21
The Education’s Department decision to shut 800 primary schools is not being accepted by government teachers unions as they say that the move shows that the government is not serious towards government schools as their main motive is to end government school education.
The union members today burnt an effigy of the Punjab Government and raised slogans against the state government. They said the recent orders of the merger of 800 primary schools clearly indicated that the government did not want to save government school education system.
Notably, the department had identified the schools where there were less than 20 students and as many as 54 schools in Jalandhar would get closed and merged.
The union members also said that the government had recently announced to start pre-primary classes in the schools and after that announcement, this order had come as a shock. They said that the government did not think about the students, teachers and mid-day meal workers who were working in these schools.
The union would burn an effigy on October 23 to mark another protest against the decision. — TNS
