As many as 10 people were challaned by the Health Department and Municipal Corporation in Jalandhar today during drives held in the city for the eradication of dengue and malaria.

Civil Surgeon Dr Maninder Kaur Minhas said joint teams of the Municipal Corporation and the Health Department had surveyed various areas of the city issuing challans to 10 people. She said AHO Dr Krishan Lal from the Municipal Corporation and Health Department teams had been spreading awareness among the populace regarding prevention from dengue, malaria and other diseases caused by contaminated water.

She appealed to the public to prevent the accumulation of water in their surroundings so that diseases like dengue, malaria and chikungunya can be kept at bay. She also emphasised on the weekly cleaning and drying up of the places in homes where water gets filled so that breeding of various mosquito larvae can be prevented.

She stressed on the use of clean drinking water and the use of chlorine to render water clean. She also said to prevent stomach infections, water should be boiled before drinking. She said the Health Department was observing Friday as a dry day to promote dry premises during this fickle season in the city. She said the anti-larvae raids would also continue in the future by joint teams of both the departments.
