The rural police nabbed three “drug peddlers” here today. Two of them are residents of Jammu and Kashmir who used to come here to sell poppy husk. More than one quintal of poppy husk along with Rs 5.25 lakh, three mobile phones, one truck and a bike were seized, the police said.
SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said Kartarpur DSP Sarabjit Rai, Inspector Davinder Singh and the SHO were present at Naugaja village when they received a tip-off about a stationery truck and a Platina motorcycle. Poppy husk was being unloaded from the tool box of the truck and laden on the bike. The police conducted a raid and nabbed the accused, who have been identified as Izaz Ahmed (25), Abdul Mazid (22), both from Jammu and Kashmir, and Harvinder Kumar (43) from Kartarpur.
Bhullar said Ahmed and Mazid smuggled poppy husk from Kashmir and delivered the same in Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala and Jalandhar. Harvinder Kumar came in their contact and asked them to supply poppy husk for which, an amount of Rs 40,000 was also sent to them.
